Solid Market

Shipping from New Orleans, LA

New Orleans is a solid market with some real geography advantages and one significant seasonal factor. I-10 is the main corridor running east to west and it is one of the most important freight highways in the southern US. It connects New Orleans to Baton Rouge, Houston to the west, and Mobile and Jacksonville to the east. I-55 drops north toward Jackson, Mississippi and connects to Memphis and the Midwest. Manheim New Orleans operates out of Slidell, just across Lake Pontchartrain from the city. Copart and IAA both have New Orleans area locations. The dealer market across the metro is active. Port activity adds to carrier awareness of this market. What slows things down is not carrier availability, it is the weather.

Standard pickups run 2 to 4 days in most seasons. The one honest caveat here is hurricane season, which runs June through November. If a named storm is approaching the Gulf, carriers get out of the area fast and incoming trucks stop moving toward the coast. We have seen this delay pickups by a week or more during active storm periods. If you are shipping during hurricane season, give yourself extra buffer time and let us know if your situation is urgent. Outside of storm season this is a reliable market. High Volume

Arriving in Charlotte, NC

Charlotte is the strongest auto transport market in the Carolinas and it has gotten meaningfully better over the last decade as the city has grown. ADESA Charlotte is on Fruehauf Drive in southwest Charlotte. Manheim Charlotte is in Concord, about 25 miles northeast. Manheim also has locations in Statesville and Kenly within the broader state network. IAA Charlotte operates in the metro as well. I-77 runs north-south through the city, connecting Charlotte to Columbia, South Carolina to the south and straight up to Charlotte Douglas International and eventually to I-81 in Virginia. I-85 runs northeast to southwest, connecting Charlotte to Atlanta in one direction and Richmond and the DC corridor in the other. That combination puts Charlotte at a natural crossroads for carriers running the Southeast.

Charlotte receives cars with very little friction. Carriers on I-85 between Atlanta and Richmond pass through the Charlotte metro regularly. Carriers on I-77 connecting the Southeast to the mid-Atlantic use Charlotte as a natural stop point. The result is that deliveries to Charlotte are reliable and do not require a premium in most cases. The Concord and Huntersville suburban areas are the cleanest for big hauler access. Uptown Charlotte near the Spectrum Center and the banking district can require a meetup in a nearby parking area but that is the exception, not the rule.

Pricing on This Route

Shipping a standard sedan from New Orleans to Charlotte on open carrier currently estimates between $525 and $825. That is based on the 792-mile distance and current market conditions.

New Orleans runs close to the national average on most routes. The I-10 corridor to Houston and the I-55 corridor north are both well-traveled and priced competitively. Where prices creep up is on routes to less-serviced destinations that require the carrier to go off the main corridors. Hurricane season can also affect pricing if demand spikes suddenly before a storm. Fall and winter, outside of storm season, tend to be the most stable. Get a quote to see your exact price.

Charlotte runs right at the national average or slightly below on most routes. The I-85 corridor to Atlanta is one of the most competitive lanes we work because carriers travel it constantly in both directions. Routes to and from the DC and Richmond corridor are very active. Routes to Florida are solid during snowbird season. Where pricing goes up slightly is on routes to the Midwest or West Coast because Charlotte is not naturally on those carrier loops and carriers have to make a detour to serve the market.
