Boston is a high volume market but it is one of the most operationally challenging cities in the country for a car hauler. ADESA Boston is located in Framingham, out on Route 9 west of the city. Manheim New England is in North Dighton, south of the metro. Both are well outside downtown, which tells you something about how logistics work here. There are IAA and Copart locations in the surrounding area as well. The auction infrastructure exists, dealer density in the suburbs is strong, and I-95 runs through the region connecting Boston to New York in the south and Portland in the north. I-90, the Mass Pike, runs west to Albany and beyond. The problem is that Boston proper has streets that predate the automobile by 200 years. Beacon Hill, the North End, Back Bay, and South Boston are not accessible by a 75-foot car hauler. Period.
Pickups in Boston take 2 to 4 days on average. If your car is in the suburbs, Newton, Brookline, Quincy, Dedham, or anywhere with a proper parking lot, it is smooth. If it is in a dense Boston neighborhood, plan for a meetup. Your driver will call you and pick a spot that works, usually a grocery store parking lot or a side street that fits the rig. Late August and early September see a big demand spike when universities move in and car shipping volume jumps hard. Book 2 weeks out if you are moving around those dates. Charlotte is the strongest auto transport market in the Carolinas and it has gotten meaningfully better over the last decade as the city has grown. ADESA Charlotte is on Fruehauf Drive in southwest Charlotte. Manheim Charlotte is in Concord, about 25 miles northeast. Manheim also has locations in Statesville and Kenly within the broader state network. IAA Charlotte operates in the metro as well. I-77 runs north-south through the city, connecting Charlotte to Columbia, South Carolina to the south and straight up to Charlotte Douglas International and eventually to I-81 in Virginia. I-85 runs northeast to southwest, connecting Charlotte to Atlanta in one direction and Richmond and the DC corridor in the other. That combination puts Charlotte at a natural crossroads for carriers running the Southeast.
Charlotte receives cars with very little friction. Carriers on I-85 between Atlanta and Richmond pass through the Charlotte metro regularly. Carriers on I-77 connecting the Southeast to the mid-Atlantic use Charlotte as a natural stop point. The result is that deliveries to Charlotte are reliable and do not require a premium in most cases. The Concord and Huntersville suburban areas are the cleanest for big hauler access. Uptown Charlotte near the Spectrum Center and the banking district can require a meetup in a nearby parking area but that is the exception, not the rule.

Boston runs above the national average, typically 10 to 15 percent higher. A few things drive that. New England is a regional dead end for carriers because there is no through traffic northeast of Boston. Carriers have to backtrack back down I-95 or I-90 to get their next load, and they price that in. The Boston to New York lane is the strongest and most competitive in the region. Routes to Florida are very active from October through April as snowbirds depart and return. The I-85 corridor to Atlanta is one of the most competitive lanes we work because carriers travel it constantly in both directions. Routes to and from the DC and Richmond corridor are very active. Routes to Florida are solid during snowbird season. Where pricing goes up slightly is on routes to the Midwest or West Coast because Charlotte is not naturally on those carrier loops and carriers have to make a detour to serve the market.
